Emotional Health & Well Being
To help staff and patents to realise the importance of emotional health in young people and the importance of working together.
Staff received INSET on managing difficult children in the classroom and how this may affect their own feelings. They were made aware of the skill they have in helping a child to learn, giving them the opportunity to expand their cognitive grasp of the world, to extend their capabilities, to get that sense of achievement and confidence. The staff was made aware of the importance of including parents so that they have a more complete picture of the situation. When new parents come to the school we talk about the emotional health and well being of the children and the partnership between the school and family.
Staff who had previously found certain situations difficult were able to find a reason for their own feelings and this helped them with their understanding of the situation. They felt more confident when speaking to parents. Parents responded well to staff showing understanding response to their children and thinking about things in a slightly different way.
Staff have been more confident in their work with pupils and parents. They understand that some of the feelings evoked in them by the children are normal and therefore are more manageable. Children benefit because staff are thinking more about why there are problems and are trying to show the child that they can understand.
