Our objective
To prepare Year 5 pupils for their final year in primary school.
What we did
We had a resident professional artist, teacher, parent volunteers and a classroom assistant. The group worked as a team of experts to produce a unique permanent piece of artwork/installation for the school.
How well it worked
Disaffected and vulnerable pupils were targeted for inclusion in the project by treating the children of experts with continually high expectations improvements in concentration, relationships and attendance were reported.
Benefits we see
The positive experience of the summer school led to higher attendance rates for full-time schooling. The extended time spent with adults on such a concentrated project improved relationships and pupils perceptions of themselves as individuals.
