Our objective
To develop a set of guidelines for schools to support families of children with special educational needs or disabilities.
What we did
We identified good practice for joint working between child care providers, health professional, schools and other agencies. We wrote these up as case studies for inclusion in our report. We articulated out commitment to creating an inclusive society, a society where every individual has a chance to give and receive support.
How well it worked
For some parents it the first time they had been consulted by a range of professionals about the needs of their children and this approach was readily accepted. Our report was well received by our pilot study group.
Benefits we see
Good practice has been shared across a range of disciplines and agencies now start to have a framework for working more closely together.
