liF was launched in November 2006, with Buckinghamshire as the pilot authority. The first group of primary, secondary and special schools received the award in July 2007, having successfully completed the accreditation process.

liF has established the national standard and works with local authorities to deliver the scheme to local schools and other settings. liF is building a comprehensive database of good practice to enable participating schools, locally and nationally, to share ideas for working with families. liF is now being rolled out in unitary and county authorities across England.
Buddsoddwyr Mewn Teuluoedd was launched in Cardiff in January 2008.
