Our objective
To provide a forum for parents to discuss problems.
What we did
We have a resource base which is used across the authority and provides specialist support for families of children with autism, specifically a forum for discussion and exchange of knowledge and ideas. Topics such as behaviour management strategies, eating problems and getting to sleep have been successfully tackled.
How well it worked
One parent commented: I just never realised that other parents had the same difficulties. It's great to be able to share strategies and I have got lots of new ideas to try out now.
Benefits we see
A growing number of parents are using the resource centre to share ideas and strategies. Parents benefit from meeting others and from the facilities within the school being made more widely available.
